Objective: Learn to make sentences using Japanese verbs くる and いく.

Key Words

    [kuru]

  • から = from marker

    [kara]

  • いく = to go

    [iku]

  • へ = destination marker

    [e]

Grammar

くる = to come

くる is an irregular verb. To conjugate くる to the present/future polite form, drop the る, change く to き and add ます.

  • くる → きます = coming

    [kuru → kimasu]

To communicate the idea that someone is coming from some place, simply place から after the place and before the verb kuru.

... place + から + くる = to come from place

いく = to go

いく is a regular く verb. So to conjugate いく to the present/future polite form, change く to き and add ます.

Example: いく → いきます = going

[iku → ikimasu]

To communicate the idea that someone is going to a destination, simply place へ (always pronounced え when used as a destination marker) after the place and before the verb いく.

... place + へ + いく = to go to place
